1) REQUIREMENTS

To use Transform, you need:
A PC with Windows XP or better.
A Macintosh with OS 10.4 or better.
A PC with a modern version of Linux. Transform has been tested on Ubuntu 9.10.

You must have a Java runtime environment (JRE) installed.
On a PC with Windows, go to Java.com and follow the instructions to download and install JRE.
On a Macintosh, the Java runtime environment is already provided with your OS
On a PC with Ubuntu, use Add/Remove in the Applications menu.

You also need a PDF reader (i.e.: Acrobat) to read the Getting Started guides.

Note: If you are not successful at launching Transform, you probably do not have Java installed on your computer. On a PC with Windows, look for Java in the list of Control Panels. On Linux, look in the list of installed applications (Add/Remove, in the Applications menu) to confirm. If you need to download and install Java, go to www.java.com.

2) DOWNLOADING / INSTALLING THE DEMO

Download the appropriate Demo for your operating system from http://www.globalthinkers.net. Choose the language at the top, then click on Transform in the left bar. On the next page, click on Download Demo in the About Transform section.

On a PC with Windows, downloading the demo will save a file named setup.exe in the location that you will specify in the process, or in your usual Download folder. Execute that file from an account with Administrator privileges.

On a Macintosh, downloading the demo will save a file named Transform-demo.dmg in the usual Download folder on your computer. The disk image should mount automatically on your desktop. Double-click on the DMG if this is not the case. Then, double-click on the disk image to open its window and drag the Transform folder in your Applications folder (or on the shortcut provided in our disk image).

On a PC with Linux, downloading the demo will save a file named Transform-demo.jar in the usual Download folder on your computer. Execute that file from an account with Administrator privileges. During the installation, note the target directory (typically opt/globalthinkers/transform).

If this does not work, or if this does not make Transform available for all the users on that computer, open the Terminal and run the installer with root privileges (sudo setup.sh).

To launch Transform:

On a PC with Windows: Look for Global Thinkers in the Start menu. Please read the Getting Started PDFs, which are also present in the Start menu.

On a Macintosh: Open the Transform folder located inside the Applications folder. Please read the Getting Started PDFs, also present in that folder.

On Linux:
Look for Transform in the Applications menu. The Getting Started PDFs are in the same folder as the application itself (look in the target directory that you noted during the installation).

3) GETTING A FULLY FUNCTIONAL VERSION OF TRANSFORM
UNLOCKING THE DEMO

There is no link to download a fully functional commercial version of Transform. To get a fully functional version, first download and install the Demo version (see instructions above) then place an order. A Licensee Name and License Key will be sent to you. Use those to unlock the Demo.

To order Transform, go to www.globalthinkers.net. Choose the language at the top, then click on Transform in the left bar. On the next page, click on Order in the About Transform section. More instructions are provided throughout the ordering process.

When you get a Licensee Name and License Key by email, the first thing to do is to PRINT AND SAVE A COPY OF THIS EMAIL. Then, choose Unlock Transform either in the alert box that appears when you launch Transform, or in the Help menu within Transform.

On Linux, you will have to unlock the application once for every user, or launch Transform from the Terminal with root privileges (sudo java -jar transform.sh), then execute the unlock procedure as described above.

Once Transform is unlocked, the Demo limitations are eliminated.

4) GETTING AND LOOKING AT ACTIVITIES FROM THE TRANSFORM WEB SITE

The Transform web site contains ready made Transform activities. You can look at these activities in two ways:

a) Inside your web browser, even if you don't have Transform or if you have a Demo version of Transform. You must have the Java plugin installed for your web browser however.

b) Inside Transform itself, if you have an unlocked version of Transform. In this case, you can see how the activity was done, you can modify it, save it for your own usage, or upload it to the Transform web site. See the Getting Started Guides and the built-in Help system.

FROM WITHIN YOUR BROWSER
Go to www.globalthinkers.net. Choose the language at the top, then click on Transform in the left bar. On the next page, click on Transform Activities. Log in or create an account if you don't have one, to gain access to the entire collection of activities. Otherwise, browse through the limited selection.

FROM WITHIN TRANSFORM
Using your web browser, browse through the existing activities, exactly as described above. While looking at an activity you like, click on Download. The activity will appear in the location that you specify (Windows) or in the usual folder (Macintosh and Linux). The file name will be the ACTIVITYnnn.TSF where nnn is a number. If you download several activities, you should probably rename that file to something more meaningful.

Depending on your operating system, you can usually open the activity simply by double-clicking on the TSF file. If that does not work, open the file form within Transform: choose Open in the File menu.

For additional instructions about how to examine, modify, save, or upload a Transform activity, please refer to the Getting Started PDFs and the comprehensive Help system (Help menu).

5) UNINSTALLING TRANSFORM

On a computer running Windows: use the Control Panel "Add Remove program".

On a Macintosh computer: drag the Transform folder to the trash.

On a computer running Linux: Execute the uninstaller with root privileges. Find the uninstaller in opt/globalthinkers/transform and run the instruction sudo java -jar uninstall.jar
